There have been 103 World Series openers, and Dustin Pedroia is only the second player ever to lead off with a home run. Pedroia is the third Red Sox player to lead off a World Series game with a home run, joining Patsy Dougherty (1903) and Johnny Damon (2004).

The Red Sox collected eight doubles, tying the single-game record. Boston and Colorado combined for 12 doubles in the game, breaking the previous record of 11, set by the two Chicago teams in Game 5 of the 1906 World Series.

There have been 597 previous World Series games and the Red Sox were the first to bat around with two outs as they registered five hits and four walks in the 5th inning.

Josh Beckett's 1.73 career postseason ERA is the third lowest, behind Mariano Rivera (0.77 ERA) and Christy Mathewson (0.97 ERA) (70 IP min.).

Josh Beckett is the 18th pitcher to start a World Series game in both leagues (Marlins 2003).

Rockies centerfielder Willy Taveras was the only Colorado Rockies player with World Series experience (Astros', 2005). By contrast, three members of the 2007 Red Sox team have won a World Series MVP award: Curt Schilling 2001, Josh Beckett 2003, and Manny Ramirez 2004.

Curt Schilling is 11-2 in his postseason career with a 2.23 ERA. In World Series action he is 4-1 with a 2.06 ERA. Schilling, who won his first Fall Classic game in 1993, is just the second pitcher to record World Series wins 14 or more years apart. Jim Palmer (17 years) is the other.

Hideki Okajima pitched 27s innings of no-hit, no-run ball, and is the first Japanese pitcher to pitch in a World Series game. Okajima struck out four of the seven batters he faced.

In the top of the 8 inning, Red Sox relief ace Jonathan Papelbon recorded his first career pickoff when he caught Matt Holliday (the tying run) off first base.

Rockies Manager Clint Hurdle became the 44th manager in history to play in a World Series (1980) and to manage in one as well (2007).

Matt Holiday's four hits in a World Series game is one short of the record of five hits in a game set by Paul Molitor of the Milwaukee Brewers in 1982.

Curt Schilling is the first pitcher to win World Series games in his 20s, 30s, and 40s. He joins Kenny Rogers (also 41 years old) as the only pitchers to start a World Series game over the age of 40 (Rogers started 2006 World Series Game 2),

Daisuke Matsuzaka, Cy Young and Babe Ruth are the only Red Sox pitchers to drive in more than one run in a World Series game.

The Red Sox started three rookies: Dustin Pedroia, Ellsbury, and Matsuzaka. The last time a World Series team had three rookies in the starting line-up was the 1967 Red Sox Game 6 lineup which had Mike Andrews, Reggie Smith and Gary Waslewski.

With two 3rd inning doubles, Jacoby Ellsbury joined Matt Williams (Arizona Diamondbacks, 2001 Game 6) as the only player to record two doubles in the same World Series inning.

Through three games, the Red Sox were hitting .352, with an on-base percentage of .442 and a team OPS of .970. Jacoby Ellsbury was the third rookie in World Series history to get 4 hits in one game. The others were Joe Garagiola in 1946 and Freddie Lindstrom in 1924.

Terry Francona was the first manager to win his first seven World Series games.

Daisuke Matsuzaka became the first Japanese pitcher to start a World Series game. The first batter he faced was former Seibu Lions teammate Kaz Matsui, who promptly singled.

With two more doubles in Game 4, the Red Sox raised their total to 18 for the World Series which obliterates the previous record for most doubles in a four-game series (the Red Sox had 11 in their four-game sweep of the St. Louis CardinalsR in 2004).

The 2007 Red Sox are the first team since the 1927 New York Yankees to have four different starting pitchers win the first four games of the World Series. The Boston starters join the New York Yankees staff of Waite Hoyt, George Pipgras, Herb Pennock and Wiley Moore.

Mike Lowell was named the 2007 World Series MVP after hitting .400(6-15), with six runs scored, three doubles, a home run, and four RBI.

Bobby Kielty of the Red Sox became the fourth player ever to hit a pinch-hit home run in his first career World Series at-bat.

Relief ace Jonathan Papelbon earned three saves in the World Series. In 4 1/3 innings, he allowed no runs on two hits with three strikeouts.

Jon Lester is the third pitcher to win the deciding game of a World Series in his first career postseason start, joining Whitey Ford (1950) and Tiny Bonham (1941), both of the New York Yankees.

The Red Sox finished with the second-highest batting average (.333) in World Series history. Only the 1960 New York Yankees (.338, defeated by the Pittsburgh Pirates) hit better.

The Red Sox drew their fourth bases-loaded walk, tying a postseason record shared by the 1945 Detroit Tigers and 1931 Philadelphia Athletics.

Before the 2007 postseason, 65 teams had trailed 3 games to 1 in a postseason series. Of those 65, only 10 teams had gone on to mi the series.

By recording 11 strikeouts, Josh Beckett became the fourth Red Sox pitcher to strike out 10 or more batters in one postseason game. The others were Bill Dinneen in 1903, Joe Wood in 1912, and Pedro Martinez in 1999.

Curt Schilling also pitched in the postseason for the Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks, and never lost a game with his team facing elimination, going 4-0 with a 1.38 ERA.

J.D. and Stephen Drew (home runs in Games 1 and 3 of the NLDS) became the third set of brothers to homer in the same postseason, joining Clete & Ken Boyer in 1964 and Roberto & Sandy Alomar, Jr. in 1997.

The 12-2 victory in Game 6 gave the Red Sox their 68th postseason victory. They are tied for fifth on the all-time list with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Indians have now lost 8 of their last 9 potential series-clinching postseason games.

The Indians went to the 1995 and 1997 World Series with clinching victories on the road in the ALCS.

Manny Ramirez became the first player in LCS history to walk twice in one inning when he did it in the third.

Through the first six games, Kevin Youkilis led the team with a .478 batting average and a slugging percentage of .826 - additionally, he and David Ortiz are the only Red Sox players to hit safely in all six LCS games.

The 29 runs scored by the Red Sox in the 2007 World Series is the third highest total for a four-game series. The New York Yankees scored 37 runs in their 1932 sweep, and the Oakland A's scored 32 runs in their 1989 victory.

In Game 3, Jacoby Ellsbury was 4-5 and became the ninth player in history to have at least three doubles in a game (Frank Isbell set the World Series record with four doubles in Game 5 of the 1906 World Series). Ellsbury is the second Red Sox player to accomplish the feat, joining Trot Nixon who did it in 2004, Game 4.

In ALCS Game 7, Dustin Pedroia went 3-5, with three runs scored, a home run, and five RBI. In the last three games of the ALCS, Pedroia collected seven hits, and finished with a .345 average for the series.

The 2007 ALCS marked the fifth time since 1985 (when the LCST became a best of seven format) that the ALCS went to a seventh game - the Red Sox have been involved in four of the five contests, and have won three of the four.

With his strikeouts of the first four batters in Game 1, Josh Beckett was one shy of the mark for most strikeouts to open a World Series game. In 1943 Game 5, Mort Cooper struck out five New York Yankees hitters to start the game. Then, in 1963 Game 1, Sandy Koufax struck out the first five Yankees batters on his way to a then - record 15 strikeouts.

Including his World Series Game 4 victory, starter Jon Lester is unbeaten in his past 15 starts.
