44 Mantle: The Definitive Story of Mickey Mantle

The almost mythic career of Yankee slugger Mickey Mantle is the subject of this acclaimed HBO Sports documentary special. Over 18 seasons with the Bronx Bombers, despite constant nagging injuries, Mantle managed to hit 536 home runs, twice hitting more than 50 in a season. What's more, he managed to hit more than 300 in ten seasons. To this day, "The Mick" remains the greatest switch-hitter in baseball history; however, behind his country charm and good looks there was his wayward lifestyle that harmed his marriage, his relationship with his four sons and ultimately his health.

Told with honesty and candor, this critically acclaimed documentary combines memorable footage along with interviews. Family, broadcaster Bob Costas, who delivered the eulogy at Mantle's funeral, teammate Bobby Murcer, plus Yankees principal owner George Steinbrenner all provide compelling commentary.

--- With his two scoreless innings of relief work in Game Three, Mariano Rivera had not allowed a run in his last 24.1 innings of postseason play over 17 outings. Rivera's career postseason ERA stood at 0.39, the lowest in postseason history for relievers with 30 or more innings pitched.

--- Curtis' homer in the 10th marked the 11th time that a World Series game ended on a home run. The last walk-off homer was Joe Carter's championship-clinching blast in 1993.

--- Mariano Rivera was named the 1999 World Series MVP (1 win, 2 saves, 0 earned runs) and became the tenth Yankees player to win the honor.

--- Game Three was the 50th extra-inning game in World Series history.

--- With the Game Three victory, Joe Torre won his 11th consecutive World Series game, breaking the previous record set by Joe McCarthy who managed the Yankees to 10 straight wins from 1937-41.

--- The Yankees hit four homers in Game Three, the most in a World Series game since the Oakland A's had five in Game Three of the 1989 World Series.
